The Best Self Emptying Robot Vacuum
The best self emptying robot vacuum features a base that holds a month's worth of debris and empties automatically. It also makes a detailed map of your home, allowing you to label rooms and establish "no-go" zones.
It is equipped with superior obstacle avoidance abilities, too, so it will keep out of power cords and rogue socks.
Roomba s9+ from iRobot
This robot is a premium model from iRobot and it performs very well. It can easily move across a variety of surfaces, and is very effective at sucking dirt, dust and debris up. It's also well-constructed and looks pretty nice, too.
The S9 is the latest iRobot premium S Series robot vacuum. It comes with a number of additional features that make it different from other models. The iRobot App utilize, for instance, the camera to create maps that helps the unit navigate and clean more efficiently.
It will also return to the location where it left off when its battery is depleted during the cleaning process, so you don't have to waste time re-cleaning the same spots. You can set the timer to start and stop cleaning with an audio command, or by using the iRobot App. This smart vacuum is able to clean in the dark!
Another great feature is Carpet Boost, which gives the S9 extra suction power when it encounters carpeting to collect even more dirt and dust. The unit also has an elongated front design that is closer to corners and walls than the older round designs. However, keep in mind that this model won't work well with high-pile or shag carpeting.
In our tests, we observed that the iRobot S9+ cleaned thoroughly and efficiently a range of floor surfaces including medium and hard carpets. It also did well with laminate flooring, and vinyl floors. It also did a great job of maneuvering between furniture and objects however it had some issues with stairs, where it can accidentally crash into things like bookcases.
We were impressed by the feature that the S9 automatically returns to its base to empty its dust bin once it's full, which greatly reduces the need for hands-on maintenance. The dust bin is expected to last for around 30 loads or a month and a half. You'll need to replace the filter on a regular basis (as suggested by iRobot). In our experience, the iRobot S9+ doesn't get very loud during operation and is a great option for those living with kids or pets.
Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
Designed to eliminate one of the most difficult tasks off your hands, robot vacuum cleaners can do all the hard work of keeping carpeted and hardwood floors free of everyday dirt. Some robot vacuum cleaners are able to be controlled using apps on smartphones, and others come with mopping technology to bathroom and kitchen flooring. They are a great option for busy families, and they are becoming more affordable. But if you want top-tech features in your robotic cleaner, you're going to have to spend a bit more.
The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a great choice for people who live in a multi-floored apartment. The vacuum's 0.6l bin can hold a large amount of pet hair. Its dual motors offer an impressive amount of cleaning power. The dustbin is easily removed and emptied which is great since you'll have to do this regularly.
It's also easy to set it up, although I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the very first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi network. Once you've done that the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can label rooms and divide rooms into sub-rooms (good for open plan living) and direct the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that require cleaning at a given time. There are many other robots that offer similar mapping and scanning functions, but Eufy's application feels more refined and intuitive than other models.
The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can turn on the vacuum cleaner or mop via voice thanks to its integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice feature that makes the robot even more hands-free, and it is very effective in our test home.
The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums has some issues with flooring that is not clean. It may miss fur and other small objects, and can cause bumps to objects, such as its charger on the charging platform. It's not as quiet as other models we've tested and the whirring sound could be distracting.
Roborock V3S Pro
This robot isn't as feature-rich as some of the more expensive models we tested however, it does have all the basics. It has a large enough dust bin that can hold a lot of dirt before it's time to empty it and its vacuum and mop system is perfect for carpets that are hard and low-pile. It's also very quiet and we could watch the TV while it was working without feeling like it was blasting us with noise.
Our testers loved how easy it was to install and use, and were impressed by its capacity to clean all the messes off their flooring. It was successful in picking up pet hair, messes, and carpeting however it had a harder time eliminating stubborn stains. The app was easy to use and easy to understand. They were able program the vacuum to clean on a regular basis to reduce the amount of manual work. The one downside is that it doesn't include any mapping technology or object avoidance, which means you can't send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips can be used).
Another model from the iRobot's budget line that is the V3S Pro has some impressive features for its price. It was the best of all robot vacuums we tested when it comes to mapping and avoiding obstacles, and it's the perfect budget pick for those who want a cleaner self-emptying robotic vacuum that can take care of pet hair and messes on both hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting. It's also extremely quiet and comes with a massive dust bin that holds lots of debris before it needs emptying and you don't have to be concerned about having to empty it every time you use it.
The V3S Pro did not make it onto any of our top picks lists from reliable sources that test hands-on, but it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They were impressed with how easy it was to set up and use, however they noted that the battery life was very short and it was unable to avoid some of the toughest mess we've put it through.
Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is an entry-level robot vacuum cleaner vacuum mop cleaner robot that comes with a variety of features for a low price. You'll get a lot of the features found on high-end models, including intelligent navigation and mapping, without spending top dollar. You can use voice commands with Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Siri shortcuts for custom automations, as well as to begin your cleaning process while you are away.
Roborock has taken its time to design this clever cleaner. As a result, the product is extremely solid and feels like it was built with top materials. The base is strong and sturdy, with an integrated charging port for the battery. On top, you'll find the dock for the clean water tank as well as the water bins that are dirty. Below, you'll find an area that houses the vacuum bag sealed.
Once you pair your device to the app, you'll get a 2D or 3D map of your home. It will show where your robot is currently situated and the area it's cleaning. You can also create virtual barriers to keep your robot from certain areas or to only clean certain types of flooring. It can also alter its power settings according to the type of floor being cleaned and choose the most effective cleaning method.
Unlike many other robot vacuums, the Q Revo can lift both mops as it vacuums to prevent staining your carpet fibres. In fact, it's one of the few vacuums on the market that can do this.
When mopping, the Q Revo's 5500Pa suction powers are enough to suck up specks of dust and pet hair strands and other debris. And the all-rubber brush is perfect for dissolving human and animal hair, as well as adapting to uneven surfaces.
The only downside to this machine is that it takes some time to empty and fill both the dirty and clean tanks. You can cut down on the frequency of this by using the auto-empty function which will empty the bin automatically after a few days. You'll still need to check the level of water in the dock manually though, as there isn't an automatic reminder.
